thnkü4sex was born of the shared Northwestern University opera grad school experiences of
ALEXA GRÆ/Alice, praxis counter-praxis/White Rabbit, and M.K./Magda Kat/Cheshire Cat. Having bonded over rigorous classical performance training, the group drifted from the confines of opera shortly after graduation. Turned on by the art but turned off by the elitism and conservative values of the industry, the three began forging their own path—singing songs about radical revolutionary love (interspersed with filthy, filthy banter). Originating the “creepy folk opera queer dance music” genre in 2012, thnkü4sex (spelled like a text message) went on to headline dozens of house shows and many public performances. Frequent performers at Chicago’s Salonathon performance night, the group has also premiered operas at the Chicago Cultural Center (The First Act of La boheme), performance art with High Concept Labs and Opera Cabal, and a full evening of song at the Menomonee Club for Boys and Girls in Chicago. They produced their first collaborative album, Magical Games, in 2014.
